DAY 21- WILD KENTUCKY PRAYERS

DAY 21 WILD KENTUCKY PRAYERS
Prayerfully read Psalm 42; Psalm 63

While the Second Great Awakening swept through Great Britain and parts of the United States in the 1790s,

Kentucky was far-removed from such an encounter with God. Lawlessness ruled this frontier state, where a mere 5 percent of the population attended a church and bank robberies occurred daily.

James McGready, a Scotch-Irish Presbyterian minister arrived in the southwest region of Logan County in 1798 to pastor three small churches filled with escaped murderers, highway robbers and counterfeiters.

McGready’s vision for revival began from a place of prayer, and he rallied his church members to a day of prayer and fasting for revival on the first Monday of each month, as well as at sunset every Saturday evening and sunrise the next morning. By June 1800, hundreds joined McGready at Red River for a camp meeting that lasted several days, and by the end God moved so powerfully that “the floor was soon covered with the slain; their screams for mercy pierced the heavens.” The Cane Ridge Revival soon followed which not only transformed the state, but also birthed the entire modern missionary movement.

DAY 20 – WHAT A NATIONAL REVIVAL LOOKS LIKE

img12015

DAY 20 WHAT A NATIONAL REVIVAL LOOKS LIKE
Prayerfully read 2 Chronicles 20:1-20

“Come down to make your name known…and cause the nations to quake before you!” Isaiah 64:2

We lift our voices with multitudes across our own land for a powerful visitation of the Holy Spirit. This is what a national awakening looked like a century and a half ago in the days of Charles Spurgeon—

Spurgeon wrote, “The times of refreshing from the presence of the Lord have at last dawned upon our land. A spirit of prayer is visiting our churches. The rushing mighty wind is already discerned, while on rising evangelists the tongues of fire have already descended.”

Spurgeon’s godly wisdom concerning revival was reflected in his words: “Observe how sovereign the operations of God are…He may, in one district, work a revival and persons may be stricken down and made to cry aloud; then there may be crowds and all may be still and quiet, as though no deep excitement existed at all….He can bless as He wills and He will bless as He wills. Let us not dictate to God. Many a blessing has been lost by Christians not believing it to be a blessing because it did not come in the particular shape that they conceived to be proper and right.”

Spurgeon had earnestly prayed: “O God, send us the Holy Ghost! Give us both the breath of spiritual life and the fire of unconquerable zeal. O thou art our God, answer us by fire, we pray thee! Answer us both by wind and fire…Oh that thou wouldst send the wind and the fire!…God, send us a season of glorious disorder…Oh, for the fire to fall again!…Give us now both hearts of flame and tongues of fire to preach Thy reconciling word, for Jesus’ sake! Amen!” And God answered! In those years a million people were converted to Christ in the United Kingdom!

We pray with Charles Spurgeon—
Oh God, send us the Holy Ghost! Answer us by wind and fire! God send us a
season of glorious disorder! O, for the fire to fall! For Jesus’ sake! Amen!

DAY 18 – SEEKING HIS PRESENCE

Prayer

DAY 18 SEEKING HIS PRESENCE
Prayerfully read Isaiah 55:6; Matthew 25:1-3

Seek the Lord while He may be found, call upon Him while He is near. What does the author mean by, “while He may be found”?

Does this imply that there may be times when we will not be able to find Him? I, for one do not want to discover what this means the hard way. I want to take advantage of every opportunity that I have to seek out His presence in my life. Will there be a day when circumstances around me may prevent me from finding Him – circumstances like sin, deception, death, or even the end of the age? May I make the most of the opportunity I have been given on this very day to seek His presence. May I not follow the example of the 5 foolish virgins spoken of in Matthew 25, who ran out of oil for their lamps.

Today, I press into His presence to re-fill my lamp to overflowing of the oil of His glory. I rely on the promise found in James4:8. “Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.”
Prayer: Thank you for your glorious presence Lord. I long to walk with You in the cool of the day as Adam did in close fellowship and love. Prepare me for the days ahead with the fullness of your presence. I long to abide in You. Please abide in me. May revival begin with me. Revive me this day, and may it spread to others as I share the oil that You have given to me. I love You, Lord!

• Lord, make me a person of Your presence and power.
• Let my family and friends “smell” the fragrance of Your holiness and grace in my life.

DAY 17 – POWERFUL SPIRITUAL WEAPONS

DAY 17 POWERFUL SPIRITUAL WEAPONS
Prayerfully read 2 Corinthians 10:3-5; Romans 12:1,2

These are exciting days to be a soldier in God’s army. Soak today in the meaning of 2 Corinthians 10:3-5! Focus especially on this phrase, “the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds.”

We see God is clearly not calling us to use our own strength to fight the evil in the world but wholly rely on Him. As we take up the Sword of the Spirit in prayer and fasting, God will take down the strongholds of the enemy. Oswald Chambers said it well when he wrote, “Prayer does not fit us for the greater work; prayer is the greater work!” Let’s pull down some strongholds today in Jesus’ name, and seek Him fervently!

P R A Y E R F O C U S
• Pray for a life-changing revival in our families and churches.
• Lord, show me how to tear down any strongholds in my life.
• Pray for a greater desire and anointing to pray.

DAY 15 – OUR FOCUS: JESUS

img11515

DAY 15 OUR FOCUS: JESUS
Prayerfully read John 14 – 15

We humans are creatures of habit. We observe, analyze and organize the things others do.

We measure ourselves against the disciplines of our spiritual leaders. We think if they spent 2 hours with the Lord every day and are this mature, then that is what I should do. Other times we think that we want to be just as radical as someone else. And still other times we hear people talk about revival, and we study what they did and how they got there in hopes that if we do exactly what they did, we too can have revival. Copying others’ methods puts our focus on them and what they did.

Instead, we must start where they started—with Christ Himself. Everyone wanting more of Him has to START and CONTINUE with the Giver of Life, and His Name is Jesus. ‘The Life’ is only found in Jesus who is ‘The Way’. Real growth only takes place when Jesus is the One who begins a particular work, and we simply obey His direction. As we fast AND SEEK HIM our faith will be focused on Him and not on what someone else did. He will be ‘The Way’ for us. He will revive us. He is our focus!

Remember: fasting, like all spiritual disciplines or methods, doesn’t have life in itself. It just puts us in the right place to have fellowship with Christ, and to hear His voice.

P R A Y E R F O C U S
• Lord, help me to focus on knowing You.
• Lord, I continue to seek Your face for a fresh move of Your Spirit in my life, family, workplace, congregation, and in our nation.

Day 4 – JOY – THE ESSENCE OF PERSONAL REVIVAL

PrayerDAY 4 JOY – THE ESSENCE OF PERSONAL REVIVAL
Prayerfully read Psalm 63:1-8

What is David’s secret for living in personal revival? Let us study three responsive acts in this Psalm that gave David his spiritual joy and overflow.

Verse 6: “Think of the Lord.” At all times, may I consciously turn my attention toward the Lord. Psalm 46:10 commands us to “be still and know that I am God.” Quiet your hearts and your minds in His Presence many times throughout the day.

Verse 7: “Sing to the Lord.” God is my Help and my Salvation, may my life song sing to Him. Joyfully in the rain and in the sunshine, I will choose to sing words of gratitude for His unending love, for His gift of Salvation through Jesus Christ, for His personal concern for my life.

Verse 8: “Cling to the Lord.” I acknowledge my utter dependency upon Him. As Jesus says in John 15:5b, “apart from Me, you can do nothing.” Yes, He alone is my Stability, my Refuge and my Strength. God is my ever constant Companion in times of trouble and in seasons of peace.

Pray that we, as children of God, would quiet our hearts and live in the Truth that it is “in Him that we live and move and have our being” (Acts 17:28). As we allow ourselves to soak in His love, we can then in turn pour His love into the lives of others. Loving well is the goal of our Christian walk – loving Him, loving ourselves, and loving others well. Revival of the heart begins in the secret place of personal adoration and worship.

P R A Y E R F O C U S
• Lord, restore to me the joy of my salvation.
• Pray that His Spirit may fill your life so that your family and friends may be thirsty for Him.
• Pray that you may live in the joy of His presence.
